Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
Robotic process automation (RPA) is automation technology in which software bots are configured to perform tasks that typically are performed manually by office workers. RPA can free workers from performing repetitive back-office tasks like manual data entry.
RPA bots can log into applications, enter data, calculate, and complete tasks, and then log out. These tasks can include queries, calculations, and maintenance of records and transactions.
RPA technologies generally are classified into three broad categories:
- Probots, which follow simple, repeatable rules to process data
- Knowbots, which search the internet to gather and store user-specified information
- Chatbots, which are virtual agents who can respond to customer queries in real time
Benefits of RPA include:
- Completing processes more rapidly
- Improving efficiency by digitizing and auditing process data
- Ensuring business operations comply with regulations and standards
- Improving customer service
- Cost savings from automating repetitive tasks
- Enabling employees to devote their time to higher-level tasks
Business Applications for RPA:
- New Account Opening/Customer Onboarding
- Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
- Tech Support
- Accounting and Finance
- Invoice Processing
- Remittance Processing
- HR Support and Onboarding
- Procurement
